Privacy Policy: Lapwing

1. We collect no data

Lapwing does not collect, transmit, sell or share any personal information. The App has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. There is no email address to give us and nothing to sign up for.

Because we hold no copy of your meetings, we cannot recover them for you. We also cannot hand them to anyone else, including in response to a legal request, because we do not have them.

2. How processing works

Recording, transcription, speaker separation and summarization all run on your iPhone, using Apple's on-device speech recognition and Apple Intelligence. No audio and no text is sent to a server for processing, not ours and not a third party's.

Everything Lapwing creates stays in the private storage of the App on your device. That includes audio recordings, transcripts, summaries, decisions, action items and the Markdown files it exports.

3. When Lapwing uses the network

The App makes no network request containing your content. It uses the network in exactly two situations. Each one downloads software to your phone, and each one sends only the request for that download:

1. Apple's on-device speech model. The first time you transcribe in a given language, iOS downloads the speech recognition model from Apple. This is Apple's standard asset delivery; your audio is not sent anywhere.
2. Speaker-separation models. Lapwing uses the open-source FluidAudio library, which downloads its CoreML model files (hosted on Hugging Face) the first time speaker separation runs. The request carries no audio and no text; as with any download, the host necessarily sees your device's IP address.

After those downloads, transcription, speaker separation and summarization all run offline. The App also opens links, meaning this policy, the terms of use, and anywhere you choose to send a meeting yourself.

4. Backups

Lapwing's storage is part of your iPhone, so it is included in your iPhone's backups, whether that is iCloud Backup or an encrypted backup to your own computer, exactly like any other app's data. We never see those backups; they are between you and Apple, under your Apple Account, and you control them in iOS Settings. We mention it because "nothing leaves your phone" would not be the whole truth otherwise: with iCloud Backup switched on, a copy of your meetings is in your iCloud account. Apple's own protections apply there, and turning on Advanced Data Protection makes that copy end-to-end encrypted.

5. Features that show your meetings outside the App

Some of what Lapwing does deliberately surfaces information outside the App's own screens, on your device. None of it sends anything to us or to anyone else.

• Spotlight search. Meetings are added to your iPhone's search index so you can find them from the Home Screen. We index a meeting's title, summary, attendee names and action items. We never index the transcript, which is the most sensitive text the App holds. The index is local to your device, and deleting a meeting removes it.
• Reminders. If you choose "Add to Reminders" on a meeting, its open action items are copied into Apple's Reminders app. This happens only when you ask, one meeting at a time, and only outward. Lapwing never reads your existing reminders.
• Notifications. If you allow them, Lapwing tells you when a meeting has finished processing. Notifications are generated on your device; there is no push server.
• Lock Screen and Dynamic Island. While recording, Lapwing shows a live indicator with the elapsed time so you can see it is still running from the Lock Screen. It shows the time, the recording state and a count of moments you flagged. It shows no transcript and no meeting content.
• "Take it elsewhere". A meeting can be copied to your clipboard, formatted for pasting into the AI app you choose. Lapwing does not send it. There is no account, no API key and no network call. The text goes to your clipboard, and nothing leaves the phone until you paste it. Once you do, it is governed by whoever you pasted it into, under their terms, not ours. The App tells you so before the first time you use it.

6. Subscriptions and payments

Lapwing offers an optional subscription and a one-time lifetime purchase, both sold through the In-App Purchase system of Apple. Apple handles the transaction and your payment details; we never see your payment information. Apple provides us only aggregate sales reporting, which contains no personal information.

A subscription is required to record or import a new meeting. Everything you have already captured stays available whether or not you are subscribed. That includes playback, transcripts, summaries and export.

7. Your recordings and the law

Recording laws vary by jurisdiction, and in many places every participant must consent before a conversation is recorded. You are responsible for obtaining whatever consent the law where you are requires. Lapwing is a tool; it does not give legal advice and nothing on this page is legal advice.

8. Retention and deletion

You decide how long anything is kept. Deleting a meeting in the App removes its recording, transcript and exported files from your device. Deleting the App removes everything it stored. You can also export your entire library at any time from Settings, as plain Markdown plus your original recordings, and take it wherever you like.

9. Children's privacy

Lapwing is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone of any age, because the App collects no information at all.

10. Changes to this policy

If the App ever changes in a way that affects this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top before that change ships. Anything that would move data off your device, or add a network request, appears here first.
